The Following are letters from English Shepherd Breeders from the 1930’s & 40’s, curtsey of UKC Bloodlines.

SEMYKENNEL By O.O. Grant. 1938

The name SEMYKENNEL was originated for our use as a kennel name in the year 1920, and was SEE MY KENNEL shortened to one word as Semykennel.

While our breeding experience dated back yet farther than 1920, it was not until the middle of the 20’s that we began breeding Registered Dogs, then after contacting several of the larger registering offices, we settled with the United Kennel Club, Inc. of Kalamazoo, Mich. And in those bygone years we always found the past editor, Mr. Bennett, both our friend and advisor.

After his death, when his daughter Frances Bennett (Fuhrman) took the helm for the United Kennel Club, Inc. we still found her our friend, as well as her ability to cooperate with us for the registration and betterment of Purebred Dogs. We know that few people live a life that is in the after years a Monument of Memory to the entire world, but I feel that what the United Kennel Club, Inc. has been towards Pure Dog Breeding will always stand as a monument to the Canine Loving People of America.

I have proof of the English Shepherd being more than 100 years in America, and the praise that is given to him by the real old timers is enough to make the present-day English Shepherd tuck his tail and hide.

The English Shepherd is becoming one of the most popular dogs in the South. This Breed of dog has no equal on the farm and guards for children. I sold two in Florida which had been trained for two blind parties. They write me that these two dogs work perfectly.

An English Shepherd is the best all around dog that a farmer or anyone else who likes dogs could own.
